REBUILDING TOGETHER
METRO CHICAGO

SENIOR CAPSTONE BRANDING PARTNERSHIP

THE BRIEF — For my senior capstone, I partnered with Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago to build a full suite of branding and outreach materials — unifying fragmented communications into a cohesive visual system across digital, print, and mobile platforms that strengthened community engagement and extended their brand into new spaces.

STEP 1

STYLESCAPE

I established a Russian Constructivism-inspired stylescape: bold geometry, strong color blocking, and a purpose-driven aesthetic aligned with their community revitalization mission.

STEP 2

BATTLE OF THE BANDS FUNDRAISER LOGO

The client requested a logo for their annual "Battle of the Bands" fundraising event, aiming for a design that stood apart yet still connected to their main logo.

Core Design Elements:

  • Secondary brand color exploration with a grungy, rough-edged aesthetic

  • Balance between corporate identity and the event's electric energy

Secondary logo format was provided for future guitar pick production

EXPLORING COLORS

Finalized color after aligning on structure — presenting multiple options emphasizing secondary brand colors, particularly red and gold.

Initially, the request was to prioritize utilizing the secondary brand colors for the logo, with emphasis on options showcasing the red and gold. Upon request, additional color options were presented to ensure full client satisfaction.

EARLY VARIANTS

Explored logo figures in action and concert associated imagery; guitar pick format selected and refined through subsequent rounds.

STEP 3

BATTLE OF THE BANDS SOCIAL MEDIA TEMPLATES

The client requested a set of easily updatable templates that can be changed each year. The set includes:

  1. A template to showcase the bands' names.

  2. Two variants to add sponsor logos.

    • All editable templates have information about the event (date/address).

  3. Bonus Post Provided: A Call For Sponsors

Core Design Focuses:

  1. Sponsor logo compatibility with non-transparent backgrounds

  2. Versatile, on-brand, and adaptable for future events

STEP 4

CUSTOM VAN WRAP

The client requested a van wrap design that creatively incorporates their logo, with the idea of splitting it up to wrap around the van. They preferred to stick to their primary brand colors to maintain consistency with their national brand.

The design should also include:

  1. Various contact methods (website/email, phone number)

  2. At least one a QR code

  3. Organization mission statement

  4. The wrap should be eye-catching, professional, and align with Rebuilding Together brand standards.

2ND ROUND DRAFTS

FINAL DRAFTS

Narrowed to half wrap format; refined balance of the longer slogan across both sides. We finalized down information hierarchy.

I condensed slogan to 'Repair • Revitalize • Rebuild' on the rear; identical sides anchored by the full expanded logo vector.

INITIAL DRAFTS

Explored all three coverage sizes across mild, medium, and spicy directions with consistent core components: logo placement, slogans, and a green-black-white palette. Various wrap styles accommodate a range of budgets, as final budget wasn't yet finalized at this stage.

STEP 5

MISSION BROCHURE

Designed a mission-focused volunteer brochure consolidating multiple flyers into one clear, accessible format built around storytelling and community impact.

STEP 6

PROMOTIONAL STICKERS

Proposed and designed a sticker as an event takeaway. The concept finalized during the initial draft presentation.
