PROJECT OVERVIEW

For this project, I selected a Newsweek article titled "Deaths of Young Men Fuel Chicago Serial Killer Fears," drawn to its compelling subject matter. Over the course of the design process, I developed key skills in magazine layout, including column structure, typographic hierarchy, selecting impactful pull quotes, and balancing visual elements with body text.

Layout Design

PROGRAMS USED

Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign

To establish a strong visual narrative, I began with a map image that aligned closely with the article’s theme. Using Adobe Photoshop, I converted the image to black and white and selectively brought back the red to create emphasis. This treatment informed the development of a cohesive color palette—red, grey, black, and white—that guided the rest of the layout. While the primary image used a stylized monochrome effect, supporting photographs were kept in color to preserve their impact and clarity.
